Raffle to Benefit Meals on Wheels
Top Prize, 500 Gallons of Oil! Thanks to Country Oil
Meals on Wheels provides a hot meal and daily well-being check-in for over 1200 residents of Franklin County and North Quabbin who are homebound. Meals, prepared at 18 sites in our 30-town region, are delivered by over 70 volunteer drivers. This federally-supported program, which helps seniors remain safely at home, has been asked to meet the needs of more and more elders leaving hospitals and nursing homes with quite specialized dietary needs, over the past 20 years.
Franklin County Home Care faces a big problem keeping this critical support going, since the Federal Government, which funds the program, has not provided an increase in the rates for over 20 years and the prices for gas and food are climbing! Our friends and allies in 30 towns of Franklin County and North Quabbin have been supporting our homebound elders by raising money through the Meals on Wheels Walkathon, held in May, the annual Thanksgiving appeal, and the fall Raffle.
The lucky first prize winner of the 2008 Raffle will receive 500 gallons of Oil (or cash equivalent) thanks to the generous support of Country Oil in Bernardston represented by John Cormier, President Sommay Sayarath, and Vice President Daniel Rameau.

Lenny Stratton is the third co-owner.

The second colorful quilt, framed in a beautiful grey-green, has been pieced by the Stitches and Threads group at the Bernardston Senior Center. Fabric for the Stitches and Threads quilt, named Agony and Aggravation, was donated by Ethel Conti, group member.

Finally, we have many wonderful gift certificates donated by many of the region's fine restaurants. Winners can plan on an elegant dinner at Chandler's at Yankee Candle in Deerfield, Ristorante Di Paolo in Turners Falls, or China Gourmet in Greenfield. American cuisine is featured at Bill's Restaurant in Greenfield and the popular Four Leaf Clover in Bernardston. Or plan on a Mexican fiesta at Mesa Verde on Miles Street in downtown Greenfield. No one can beat the delightful luncheon & extraordinary sweets at Patty Cake, Patty Cake in Turners Falls, or the wild and wonderful breakfasts at Elmer's Store in Ashfield.
All these charitable businesses have supported Franklin County Home Care as we work to make sure our treasured elders who are homebound, get a good, hot meal daily, and are safe and secure at home. (Look for the RAFFLE display, featuring our two quilts at the at the Greenfield Savings Bank, downtown Greenfield branch, in the month of October.)
